Wong Bing Hao Plattform: Coiling, Camouflage, Contingency   Landmark  Foredrag

Et foredrag av Wong Bing Hao i forbindelse med Sandra Mujingas utstilling "SONW – Shadow of New Worlds".

Gratis og åpen for alle! Foredraget blir holdt på engelsk

Why are bodies adulated? Can idolisation be a reflexive act attuned to cultural contexts and urgencies? In a new research presentation, Wong Bing Hao responds to these queries through a discussion of various cultural phenomena, including Kpop, social media apps, the growing consciousness around transgender issues, cute theory, cult celebrities, fashion, and theories of the self. This presentation will pivot around Wong’s edited series of online publications, and Sandra Mujinga's practice, in particular her ongoing exhibition at Bergen Kunsthall.

Wong Bing Hao (b. 1991, Singapore) is a writer and mediator. Through research-driven texts and public programs, they engage with artists and their practices, and attempt to formulate new vocabularies and expressions that gesture toward representational accountability. They write for Artforum, Frieze and Leap. Currently, they are editing a series of online publications (Indifferent Idols 2018, nominal bliss 2019, and two more forthcoming in 2020-21) that aims to generate new research trajectories and communities around contemporary artists of non-binary and trans experiences. They are invested in collaborations with cultural practitioners from diverse backgrounds in the hope of producing specific communities dedicated to ethical and expansive artistic practice.

Plattform is Bergen Kunsthall’s series of lectures and debates. This season, the series hosts talks and conversations with artists, writers and scholars in connection with the solo exhibition by Sandra Mujinga and in relation to wider contemporary discussions.

Plattform events are video-streamed live at kunsthall.no, Vimeo and Facebook.
